Bowie Knife History
The bowie knive was invented by James (Jim) Bowie who was an American living in the the early 1800's. Back in those days, some men dueled with knives. A famous bowie knife combat situation took place in 1827 between Jim Bowie lots of other guys on a sandbar in the Mississippi River of all places. This was called the Sandbar Fued which sprang from a confrontation of two old rivals and political enemies and speculators where apparently a man named Norris Wright, the sheriff of a Parish in Louisiana shot at Bowie, and bowie tried to kill him with his bare hands until Wrights friends intervened. Bowie swore to always carry his hunting knife with him from then on out.
